Adoption: Awkward Moments and All

Posted by Courtney Slight on

This past weekend has been extremely amazing. We finally met the EM (Expectant Mother) we have been in contact with and oh my, has it been a whirlwind of emotions and nerves. We drove down to Utah Friday evening and planned to meet her on Saturday. Talk about a sleepless night for both of us! On Saturday she had a ton of homework she needed to finish up, so we agreed to meet for an early dinner at the carb lover’s dream restaurant-Olive Garden. She has craved bread so we wanted to make sure she had as many breadsticks as...

Adoption: Nice to Meet You, Kinda

**This blog post contains alias names in order to protect individual identities. As most of our followers know, we’ve been searching for our missing piece for a little under a year and a half. It's 11:25 pm, the night before Mother’s Day. My heart is heavy as I still try to make sense of the last week. I thought the closure would bring comfort and understanding, it did the day of, but the longer it goes on the more confused and hurt I feel. I still can't understand why or how I feel so strongly about something that was never mine to begin with. I think I truly believed she would be mine, that sweet baby girl, safe in the womb of her scared and brave birth mother. How can I love them both...

Adoption: The end of the Beginning

I had this crazy realization last night. At 3 am. Talk about no sleep.Previously the birth Mother had given us 4 scenarios to read through, and devise a parenting plan to present to her. Not as a test, (thought this whole process feels like one regardless) but more for her to understand our style of parenting. Well I was actually excited for this because it sounded fun, kinda like a game. We talked over the all the scenarios and came up with our perfect answers, and gave her a call to present them. I felt good, she sounded to like...
